Stuart B.Levy,M.d.,is a world renowned authority on antibiontic use and resistance,on which he has written and lectured extensively.He discovered drug efflux as a mechanism for antibiotic resistance and was among the first to document the transfer of drug resistance among animals and people.He is currently Professor of Molecular Biology and Microbiology and of Medicine;Director of the Center for Adaptation Genetics and Drug Resistance at the Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston,Massachrsetts;and a staff physician at the New England Medical Center.Dr.Levy is also president of the international Alliance for the Prudent Use of Antibiotics and cofounder and Chief Scientific Officer of Paratek Pharmaceuticals,Inc.Profiled in the New Yorkdr for his work in antibiotics,he has also been quoted in all major periodicals and newspapers,including Time,Newsweek,U.S. News and World Reportk,the New York Times,the Washington Post,and USA Today.He has appeared on the Today Show,Good Morning America,NOVA,and all major television news networks.Chairperson of a government-sponsored international three-year study of antibiotic use and resistance world-wide,Dr.Levy is the past president of the 42,000-member American Society for Microbiology and received the 1995Hoechst-Roussel Award for esteemed research in antimicrobial chemotherapy.He was awarded an honororary degree of Doctor is Science from Wesleyan University in1998 and from Des Moines University in 2001.
