简介:At the heart of this important new book is the tension between literacy and the open acknowledgement of discrepancies within social and linguistic fields on the one hand, and what Sussman terms the resolving function, the utopian picture of harmony depicted by the state and large organizations, on the other. After discussing some examples of the resolving function--Barthes's notion of the myth, Kundera's fictional treatment of kitsch, and contemporary television--Sussman draws on a line of theoretical inquiry extending from Saussure to Derrida in order to put forth a differential model of literacy in which the skills necessary to participate productively in culture are more disjunctive than associative in nature. Awareness of the discrepancies set into play by language is necessary, he argues, for both the individual and the society to understand the complex and sometimes contradictory web of socioeconomic, political, and semiological relations in which they are involved. 简介: 首度三國語言出版--亞洲建築師們群力剖析複雜至極又極具魅力的都市:東京這本英文書名為《Architecture and Urbanism of Tokyo》,中文與日文書名均為《東京論》的著作,是一本從內部(日本人)與外部(非日本人)的角度來理解亞洲城市之一的東京之初試之作。為了用中文、英文與日文三種語言來表達記述這本書的內容,前後花費了兩年的時間編輯才得以出版。在此,我由衷地感謝所有協助本書完成的作家與提供作品刊載的建築師們。--團紀彥東京的形成為了要理解這複合多種文化與迥異於周邊國家的大都市,東京,就得從它的開發源頭開始溯起,江戶時期的發展被稱為微地形,東京其實就是藉由這些微細的地形或風景為開端發展而來的。之後又經歷明曆時代的大火、關東大地震、二次世戰的東京大空襲等災害後,造成了都市反覆的擴張與再生,這也是東京無法被嘗試營造成如同歐美或中國一般,可體驗到大尺度都市空間之理由。與其說東京是一個被統合化的大都市,倒不如說是一個由許多小村落集合而成的大村落來得容易讓人理解。從江戶時期開始、明治時期、戰前與戰後,到各時期主政者的都市營造與建築方針,也就是說由江戶時期的風水思想與木造寺院建築、明治時代的歐化政策與歐風建築、戰前在軍國主義體制下所建造的帝冠樣式建築、或是戰後基於民主主義所整備的道路及鐵路網絡等現代建築,集結各個時代的遺跡與拼湊沒有被燒掉的地圖斷片,才造就出東京現在的姿態。馬可波羅看東京有關都市的論述本來就是充滿了矛盾與挖苦的言語。如果想要知道都市是藉由什麼論點發展生成的,就要主動地從內部的視點來剖析;相對地如果是站在理解或閱讀都市的立場而言,那就得被動地從外部的旅人觀點來看了。對住在這東京裡,還要同時用旅人的觀點來解讀的話,是相當困難的一件事。因為長久居住在東京的人所寫的都市論述,雖然在政治或學識上頗具深度,但是閱讀起來卻不太有趣不是嗎?義大利作家伊塔羅?卡爾維諾(Italo Calvino)的「看不見的城市」就是在描寫旅人馬可波羅對忽必烈皇帝敘述自己曾經旅行過的城鎮之對話,這小說的構想原出於「馬可波羅遊記」,在這本書裡描述了許多虛構、想像的城鎮,是一本兼具多元性與普遍性且評價相當高的文學作品。從馬可波羅的觀點來閱讀,有時候也許比從東京人的角度來看,會獲得更豐碩、更有意涵的內容與感觸。東京的街道與建築東京常被大家視為是沒有大街(AVENUE)存在的都市。的確;東京很少有如巴黎的香榭麗舍大道(Avenue des Champs-élysées)、巴塞隆納的拉蘭布拉大道(La Ramblas),或是北京的長安大街般的大道,當你走其中時,可輕易知道自己身處何地,且可感受到都市整體的尺度感。東京也常被認為街道的方向感令人難以判斷,但是只要一抄近路或走進巷弄裡,卻也有不少令人驚喜的發現。以上這些經驗都是來自於經常走訪東京之外或異邦城市的朋友以及海外友人。這反而讓我想到,這些也許就是東京的空間特徵吧!東京在江戶時期建造了將近兩百個小富士山丘。原因跟定都為東京的德川家康出身於富士山附近的駿河(Suruga)有關,人民將富士山視為信仰的對象而建造的。以被建造出來的小富士山丘為近景,遠遠地眺望富士山成為江戶市民們的一種生活樂趣。雖然這些人為建造而成的富士山丘大多已經被毀壞殆盡,但在東京仍殘留許多名為「富士見町」(Fujimi Chyo)的地名。現在我們可能無法理解為何這些小山丘前面的小路是彎彎曲曲的,因為原有的地形已經埋沒於摩天大樓之間,根本就看不到富士山。但我想這點可以幫助我們了解不易一眼看透的東京之構成。雖然東京沒有基於西方概念所作成的的AVENUE或BOULEVARD等街道,但對市民生活及商業活動而言,它提供重要場域的意義是不變的。東京的表參道,原本是由祭祀明治天皇的明治神宮前之參道整治而成。在原本寬九公尺的道路兩旁增設寬闊的人行步道,並種植蒼鬱美麗的櫸木。在這條路上羅列著各種世界知名精品的旗艦店,在東京算是少有的林蔭大道AVENUE景觀,其實表參道本身並不長,大約到丹下健三(Tange Kenzo)先生的代代木(Yoyogi)奧林匹克綜合運動館為止。另外,從日本橋到銀座的中央通也是東京街道中不可忽視的街道之一。日本橋常被視為江戶時期的產物,而銀座則被認為是明治時期的產物,這條大道也可說是橫貫了江戶與明治時代的象徵。代官山Hillside Terrace在現代建築語彙中是街道空間的佳作先例,建築家槙文彥(Maki Fumihiko)與業主朝倉(Asakura)先生有著很大的貢獻。東京現在呈現一種回歸都心的現象,連暫住都外衛星城區的人也開始有回流都心居住的現象。我想除了考量到交通的便利性之外,也顯示了想要在市中心享受生活樂趣的人正持續不斷增加中。最近六本木Hills與Tokyo Midtown陸續完成,六本木地區也持續起了巨大的變化。其實在三十年前地鐵車站完成之前,這個區域並沒受到多大的注目,因為周圍有許多大使館,漸漸地發展成以外國人為對象的花街柳巷,之後因再度開發而聚集更多都心型態的辦公室大樓與住宅區,而成了現在的規模。從另一方面來看,各地區對於都市景觀、街道景觀以及環境相關議題也不斷地高漲中,今後東京市民對於街道空間(Machinami,街並)的形成與周邊環境的保護與整備,所給予的關心與期望也會愈來愈高吧!在這本書中,將針對東京的幾個街道空間以及賦予其特徵的主要建築做介紹。

本书以杜威哲学为切入口,从宏观和微观上对杜威哲学及美国实用主义作了学理上的深度探讨,包括以下两个部分:一是关于实用主义的一般研究,由五篇文章组成:刘放桐从实用主义与马克思主义比较研究的角度出发,对实用主义进行了再评价;江怡从历史和现状方面分析美国实用主义哲学的主要特征,特别是新老实用主义之间的区别;Richard Shusterman从伦理和美学的角度考察了实用主义与身体美学的关系;Anton Leist从学理上探讨了实用主义和怀疑主义的关系;Roberto Frega则考察了实用主义为社会哲学提供的两个资源。二是“杜威研究”专题,由九篇文章组成:Larry A. Hickman探讨了杜威晚期思想中的命题概念;Arild Pedersen以新的视角重新考察了杜威的宗教哲学;Jim Garrison探讨了创造性的自我表达在杜威式教育观中的关键位置;Italo Testa在杜威的语境下提出了一种基于习惯的社会本体论;孙宁在历史的语境下重新定位了杜威提出的探究逻辑;孙斌从个人与行动的角度重新考察了杜威的民主;董山民辨析了杜威式社会民主的若干问题;徐陶考察了杜威哲学与中国的关系;杨兴凤对杜威的工具主义与罗伊斯的*主义作了比较研究。
