Publisher Summary 1
Forty-eight papers, presented by Dana (management, U. of Canterbury, New Zealand) and Anderson (U. of Regina, Canada), collectively provide a multidisciplinary exploration of cultural perceptions of entrepreneurship, economic activity, risk, and opportunity among indigenous people around the world. The bulk of the chapters are empirical examinations of entrepreneurship activities in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Americas, and the South Pacific. Examples of specific topics include indigenous exchange practices in northern Russia, women's position in European S谩mi reindeer husbandry, Basuto culture and entrepreneurship in Lesotho, and traditional livestock production among Bedouin in the Negev Desert. In a concluding discussion, the editors attempt to construct a multidisciplinary theory of entrepreneurship as a function of cultural perceptions of opportunity based on the findings of the rest of the contributors.
