简介
本书是高级英语第一册(Advanced English，Book 1)的续编。
本书收集的14篇课文皆为本世纪现代英语的原文，除其中两 篇课文的个别地方外，文章一概未做任何删改或压缩。课文的难 度逐渐增加。课文的题材和体裁力求广泛、多样，以利于学生扩大 知识面和接触不同的文体。课文的篇幅比较适中，文字规范化，适 于精读分析。
本书的练习项目一部分与上册相同(如内容问答，词汇、构词 法、修辞手段等方面的练习)，目的在于复习巩固已学到的知识，另 外增加了写注释、课文写作技巧分析、写作练习等新的项目。这些 练习的目的是：第一，提高学生的独立工作能力，引导学生学会查 找有关参考书，并使学生自己动手写注释、做笔记。第二，培养学 生分析欣赏写作技巧的能力。在掌握课文内容的基础上，学生还 应该注意文章的结构、语言的特点以及各种写作技巧的运用。为 配合分析课文的写作技巧，安排了写作练习，包括句子、段落等方 面的主要项目。
为了培养学生自己查找工具书的习惯，书后附有参考书单 (List of Suggested Reference Books)，推荐一部分常用的词典、百科 全书及其他方面的工具书，其中一部分已附在各课练习的[SRB] (即：Suggested Reference Books)一项下面。每课课文后面附有 注释，凡在学生常用的词典(如：新英汉词典，Webster's New World Dictionary of the American Language， The Concise Oxford Dictionary)中能够查到的语言现象或背景知识，都未加注释。为 读者使用方便，课文的段落都标了号码。
