简介

Summary: Publisher Summary 1 MicroRNAs are native small regulatory RNAs of about 22 nucleotides in eukaryotes, evolutionarily conserved molecules that can repress translation or degrade the RNA transcripts of target genes, depending on the degree of complementarity. According to Ying (neurobiology, Keck School of Medicine, U. of Southern California) they are useful for the design of new therapies against cancer polymorphism and viral mutation that are more advantageous than those derived from short interfering RNAs in that microRNAs are long-acting, stable in vivo, highly RNA promoter- compatible, multiple targeting, and of on overt toxicity. The main goal of this work is to present a range of descriptions of microRNAs in such species as worms, flies, fish, chicks, mice, and humans, as well as adaptations and applications of interest to members of the research community already familiar with microRNAs. Twenty-six papers examine such topics as structure and analysis of microRNA precursors, recognition and cleavage of primary microRNA transcripts, the microRNA sequence database, in situ hybridization as a tool to study the role of microRNAs in plant development, cloning microRNAs from mammalian tissues, and gene silencing in vitro and in vivo using intronic microRNAs, to name a few examples. Annotation 漏2006 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)   Publisher Summary 2 MicroRNA Protocols provides diverse, novel, and useful descriptions of miRNAs in several species, including plants, worms, flies, fish, chicks, mice, and humans. These include some useful adaptations and applications that could be relevant to the wider research community who are already familiar with the identification of miRNAs. This volume will stimulate the reader to explore diverse ways to understanding the mechanism in which miRNAs facilitate the molecular aspects of the biomedical research.
