Summary: Publisher Summary 1 In this reference on the reproductive biology of fish, phylogeny and classification are covered as a necessary framework for an understanding of reproductive biology. Part A highlights the diversity in modes of reproduction, and the morphology and fine structure of the reproductive system and its components. Much of Part A deals with the ultrastructure of spermatozoa. Part B deals with complementary topics, including sperm competition, endocrinology of reproduction, pheromones, copulatory structures, and a taxonomic overview. Other subjects covered include sexual selection, signaling and courtship, adaptation and evolution of reproductive mode in copulating cottoid species, sex determination, parental care, cryopreservation of gametes, and reproduction in relation to conservation and exploitation of marine fishes. B&w and color images, illustrations, and photos are included on almost every page. Jamieson is emeritus professor of zoology at the University of Queensland, Australia.
