简介

The three topics were the sessions at the May 1997 conference in Montpelier, France where the 44 full and 35 poster papers were presented. They describe applications of molecular tools to epidemiology in tropical veterinary medicine, including their increasing use in developing countries; present findings on hemoparasitic diseases, which remain one of the most if not the most important pathological problems in tropical regions; and report on such topics as the reemergence of the African infectious diseases rinderpest and contagious bovine pleuropneumonia, which were nearly eradicated before civil war and social unrest broke out, evidence that ethnoveterinary techniques provide cost-effective indications of disease patterns in rural areas, and progress but no triumph yet in eradicating Amblyomma variegatum tick in the Caribbean.
