《飘》介绍到中国以来，一直是以傅东华先生的译本孤居中国译坛之上。关于翻译，鲁迅先生历来主张外国作品可有多种译本。茅盾也曾说过：“复译的方法是可取的，能互相比较，取长补短，比解放后通行的一部名著只有一种译本的做法，也许更有利于译文质量的提高和翻译事业的繁荣。”1988年底在长沙召开的全国文学翻译讨论会认为：“由于语言本身的不断发展，一部翻译文学作品的生命力一般只有四五十年。”傅译本迄今已整整半个世纪，和今天语言上的差异，自不待言。而且就傅译本身?言，亦不尽如人意，颇有重译之必要。
