简介
Academics in linguistics, rhetoric, English, and literacy at institutions in Europe, North America, and Australia are the contributors to this substantial handbook. Comprising a cross-disciplinary approach, the group of 38 chapters originated in a 2003-4 international seminar held at the Universities of Leeds, Exeter, and London called "Reconceptualising Writing 5-16." Central themes include writing course curricula from early childhood through college, methods for assessing writing development, sociological approaches, and uses of linguistics in teaching writing. Individual chapter topics include second language writing, content of students' writing, and the relationship between talk and writing. The four editors, Roger Beard, Debra Myhill, Jeni Riley, and Martin Nystrand, specialize in education and English; they are at the U. of London, the U. of Exeter, and the U. of Wisconsin-Madison.
