简介
《常熟（英汉对照版）》讲述了常熟，位于长江三角洲，因“土壤膏沃，岁无水旱之灾”得名。面积1266平方公里，城市建成区97.32平方公里，人口1124万人，1986午被国务院确定为闽家历史文化名城。
常熟已有5000多年文明史，邑内有崧泽，良渚等文化遗址多处。3000多年前的商末，古公亶父（周太王）次子仲雍让国南下建勾吴，定居常熟。自西晋术康四年（283年）建城以来，古城已有700多年历史，至唐代，已成为商业发达、街市繁荣的江南名城。
