Solomon, Berg, and Martin (U. of South Florida, St. Petersburg College, and Rutgers U.) provide an extensive introductory textbook on biology and how it affects every aspect of life, from health and behavior to environmental issues. They present principles in an inquiry-based framework and incorporate history and scientific debates to demonstrate that science is a process and a body of knowledge. Chapters can be presented in any order. New in the text are figures that encourage students to analyze investigative approaches, questions for interpreting experimental data, lists of key concepts in each chapter, and updated and expanded illustrations.
