本书是《求是学刊》编辑部从近两年来刊发的论文中选取若干学术水平较高、适合国外学术界接受的论文翻译成英文结集出版的论文集。此英文文集以后每两年将出版一辑。第一辑选取的10篇论文涵盖哲学、经济学、法学、文学、史学等学科，分为“古代中国”、“现代中国”、“西方哲学在中国”三个板块。所选论文作者刘小枫、刘成纪、南炳文、刘伟、蔡志洲、吕世伦、蔡宝刚、王晓朝、徐长福等分别来自中国人民大学、北京大学、清华大学、北京师范大学、中山大学、南开大学等高校，他们都是国内相关研究领域的知名研究学者，所选文章都是其最新的代表性研究成果。
