International English is an accessible, informative and entertaining introduction to the main varieties of English spoken throughout the world The third edition has been expanded and updated to add substantial new information on tegional and ethnic varieties of American English. It also examines a wide range of non-native varieties of English, from West Africa to Bangladesh, and Pakistan to the Philippines. International English is particularly useful to teachers and advanced learners of English as a second or foreign language, who will find information not only about the kind of English at which they themselves are aiming, but also about the other varieties with which they may come into contact: and to sutdents and lecturers with an interest in the English language, sociolinguistics and language variation.
The complemenary recording, available on cassette, presents the vowel systems of varieties of English discussed in the book, together with readings by a native speaker.
