For 40 years, from 1950 until 1990, Eastman Kodak Company's Coloramas were a familiar sight to commuters passing through New York City's Grand Central Terminal. The gigantic, backlit color transparencies presented an idealized view of life in 20th-century America that reflected and reinforced traditional American values and aspirations while simultaneously promoting photography as an essential leisure activity. Most of the models and photographers were from the Rochester area.
