This volume is divided into eight chapters, each presenting one stage of the method: tissue preparation; pretreatment; hybridization itself; detection of the hybrid; and several methods for counterstaining and observation. Different types of probes and techniques for labeling them are analyzed and a chapter devoted to basic protocols is written to guide the newcomer through the correct methodology. Another chapter analyzes the controls, the problems of sensitivity, and the relationship between specific and nonspecific labeling.
