Summary: Publisher Summary 1 The 23 selected papers examine topics of interest to agricultural economists. The section on food, nutrition, and quality discusses concentration and vertical coordination within the food industry as well as food safety and quality. That on land and resource assessment looks at water resource management and the recreational use of land among other issues. A third group of papers considers agriculture and rural development. The final section explores problems involving the effects of agro-environmental policies and market mechanisms to improve or protect the environment. No index is provided. Annotation c. Readers will benefit from the analysis provided in the papers and will gain new insights concerning alternative approaches to dealing with important policy issues.
