To indicate some parameters for a distinctively British perspective on ecocriticism, and to correct some prevailing misconceptions in Britain and elsewhere about what ecocritical work entails, English, US, and Irish scholars present 15 studies, most from conferences in Swansea, Wales, in 1997 and Bath in 1998. Among the theoretical approaches they describe are ecofeminism, and a post-pastoral view of British poetry. The historical approaches include early modern poetry, and the sense of place in D.H.
