简介
Ma examines and compares six major 18th-century English and Chinese narratives describing feminist utopias. They include Charlotte Lennox's , Sarah Scott's , and Samuel Richardson's , as well as works by Chen Duansheng, Cao Xueqin, and Li Ruzhen. The focus is on the contrast between the feminist idealistic world and the patriarchal realistic world within the narratives. The social realities of life in China and England during this period are also discussed. Ma teaches at Clark Atlanta University. The text is based upon her dissertation.
