Publisher Summary 1
Ross (Italian studies) and Sibley (English and comparative literature, U. of Warwick) point out that this collection of 13 essays, derived from a conference held at their campus in 2000 on Umberto Eco's writings, expands the limited Eco criticism in English. Contributors apply paratextual reading strategies suggested by Eco's own theories of reading to such works as The Name of the Rose (1983) and Foucault's Pendulum (1989); employ other interpretative strategies; and suggest future approaches. Also included is a translation of the final chapter of Eco's recent, How I Write and an Eco bibliography. Annotation 漏2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
