高江涛在论文写作期间甚至是论文修改期间的重要的考古发现和相关研究成果都被他及时收入论文中。在他写作论文期间，正值国家“十五”重点科技攻关项目“中华文明探源工程”第一阶段（2004—2005）在实施之中，不断有新发现和新的研究成果问世。我们中国社会科学院考古研究所作为工程的第一执行单位，很多考古发掘和专题研究项目都是由我们研究所的学者承担的。高江涛在考古系攻读学位，并协助我做一些工程方面的工作，有条件直接了解到工程的最新进展。在论文写作过程中，他注意了解工程的进展情况，及时地将最新的考古调查和发掘成果以及多学科研究的新成果吸收到自己的研究之中。正因如此，这本书不仅信息量大，而且信息新。
中原地区是中华文明的主要发祥地，是探索中国古代文明起源的核心地区。中原地区文明化进程的研究在中国文明起源研究中占有不可替代的地位。本文按照考古学文化时间序列，从考古学文化谱系、聚落形态、墓葬形态、经济形态等方面入手，对中原地区文明化的进程进行了多角度的综合考察。该书可供各大专院校作为教材使用，也可供从事相关工作的人员作为参考用书使用。更多>>
