本书通过一个老陶工孟树峰之口，详细介绍了北方著名窑口陈窑近千年的历史变迁。陈窑属耀州窑系，位于陕西黄土高原，自隋唐以至北宋，耀州这一千年古窑曾辉煌一时，至明以后则逐渐式微，耀州窑这一传统主要由陈窑发扬光大，明清两代乃至民国年间，陈窑瓷器几遍山陕、甘青，形成其古掘、厚重的独特风格。改革开放之初，孟树峰和一些专家、技术人员一道，恢复了这一千年古瓷的烧制技术。本书在追述陈窑千年兴衰变化的同时，着重介绍其工艺特征及技术，意在以文字的形式将这一珍贵的民间工艺保存下来，流传后世。
