Russell (RMIT University, Melbourne) and Butler (University of Strathclyde, Glasgow) have assembled profiles of significant figures in the creation and promotion of tourist attractions and activities. Most of the contributors come from academic backgrounds in business, economics, or hospitality management. As a result, the chapters tend to focus on the entrepreneurial aspects of tourism cultivation and the approaches and strategies of individuals who pioneered such entrepreneurialism. Chapters are organized into four sections: giants of hospitality, giants of travel, giants of activities, and giants of development. Notable profiles include Richard Branson, Walt Disney, and John Muir.
