In this resource for new researchers and graduate students in education, computer science, and information technology, international contributors offer detailed case examples of different phases of the research process for instructional technology, from analysis and design through development, delivery, and evaluation. The first chapter, written by the editors, introduces key aspects of design and development research using a case example. The next section is devoted to problem definition and analysis, with material on aspects such as conducting needs analysis in preparation for the development of electronic self-instructional materials. The next section, on techniques and strategies, describes a method for the design of sharable pedagogical scenarios, design and evaluation of a web-based learning module on computer networking, and qualitative research on blog forums. Papers on design and development approach topics such as designing an online English language training module for adult learners, and designing a multimedia constructivist learning environment for chemistry students.
