This writing guide for undergraduates takes a UK perspective, giving instructions for using only the Harvard System of citation. The book employs the approach that students need to understand why they write essays before they learn how to write them, and therefore gives an overview of why essay writing is assigned in university courses, what is expected of students, what is expected of essays. The guide is written in an accessible style and includes a grammar dictionary with explanations of terms accompanied by clear examples. Four chapters are devoted to finding outside sources, assessing information critically, and managing and citing information. Unfortunately, the book offers only one page on using online sources. The next section covers skills for organizing and presenting information, drafting and revising, and editing. There is also guidance on writing exam essays. Pedagogical features include numerous example boxes and summary tables, and in-text and chapter-ending reflection as well as review questions and activities.
